2 hundred and one residents of Sharada Quarters, Kano, had been on Friday reportedly hospitalised after inhaling chemical compounds from a cylinder dismantled by metallic scrappers.
The Information Company of Nigeria (NAN) stories that the victims had been rushed to Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, Sharada Industrial Hospital and Ja’en Hospital, for pressing medical consideration.
The Kano Territorial Coordinator of the Nationwide Emergency Administration Company (NEMA), Nuradeen Abdullahi, confirmed the incident to NAN in Kano.
“The cylinder chemical explosion occurred on Friday at about 4:00 p.m., at Sharada Industrial Space.
“The victims had been suffocated and unconscious,” he mentioned.
A witness, Sani Muhammad, mentioned the victims collapsed and have become unconscious after inhaling poisonous substance from the cylinder dismantled by some metallic scrappers.
He mentioned the chemical compounds contained within the cylinder escaped into the air and made those that inhaled it to grow to be unconscious.
The Chief Medical Director of Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, Hussaini Muhammad, mentioned they acquired over 70 victims out of which 65 had been now in secure situation.
“Thirty-five victims acquired therapy at Sharada Industrial Hospital and 96 at Ja’en Hospital,” he added.
In the meantime, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Catastrophe Administration and Social Growth, Sadiya Faruk, visited a number of the victims on the hospital.
She was represented by the Humanitarian Affairs Everlasting Secretary, Nasir Sani-Gwarzo.
The minister recommended the hospitals managements, NEMA, SEMA and the Nigerian Purple Cross, for his or her assist to the victims in the course of the incident.
She assured that the ministry would assist the victims.
