40 states below blizzard, wind and flood alerts Monday as winter storms cross nation

Greater than 40 states, from California to New York, have been on alert Monday morning for blizzards, sturdy winds, flooding and heavy snow.

Areas between California and Colorado had seen snowfall between 10 and 18 inches over the weekend, as a storm system moved east.

Blizzard warnings have been in impact Monday for 9 states: Washington, Oregon, Idaho, New Mexico, Colorado, Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas and Nebraska.

And winter storm watches and warnings have been issued from New Mexico as much as Maine.

Because the storm strikes east on Monday, tornados shall be attainable alongside the Gulf Coast states, from Texas to Florida.

One other cross-country winter storm is anticipated proper behind the present one. It is forecast to hit the west coast within the coming days, and a blizzard warning has been issued for the Pacific Northwest close to Seattle, Washington, and Portland, Oregon.

That storm is anticipated to cross the nation later this week, bringing snow to the North and rain to the South on Thursday and Friday.
