There might be a face-off between leaders of the tenth Senate and a few members of the opposition, as eight opposition senators have warned towards an alleged plot to foist principal officers on the minority caucus of the pink chamber.
In a press release launched on Saturday and signed by Mohammed Aliero, Seriake Dickson, Aminu Tambuwal, Abdul Ningi, Patrick Abba Moro, Onyebuchi Ezenwa, Sumaila Kawu and Ifeanyi Ubah, the senators mentioned they have been conscious of the plot to foist “pliant and compromised management” on the minority caucus.
They declared that no one has been chosen or endorsed for the minority management within the pink chamber.
“Now we have pledged to work constructively with the brand new senate management and the manager department to ship good governance to the Nigerian individuals,”
“We consequently hereby advise and warning that they need to not help any group inside or outdoors the senate to divide and destabilise the minority events and the senate establishment.
“Senators of the minority events would meet when the senate reconvenes and in session with our respective political events, would choose its leaders with out undue interference from anti-democratic forces inside or outdoors the senate.
“For the avoidance of doubt, no senator has but been endorsed or chosen for any minority place as this may await due course of as agreed by all minority events of their final assembly.
“Makes an attempt to foist a one-party dictatorship could be resisted and would fail. We name on all members of the minority political events to work collectively in unity to defend the democratic establishments of the senate and Nigeria”, the assertion reads
In the intervening time, the Senate is presently on break and proceedings will resume on July 4.
