A firefighting helicopter collided in mid-air with one other helicopter Sunday night whereas battling a blaze in Riverside County, killing all three folks on the primary plane, CalFire mentioned, including that the opposite landed safely.
CBS Information Los Angeles says a “fiery mid-air collision” occurred.
David Fulcher, southern area chief for CalFire, advised reporters these killed have been a CalFire division chief, a CalFire captain and a contract pilot. He mentioned the crash sparked a further 4 acre hearth that was extinguished.
Nobody on the chopper that landed was damage, officers mentioned.
One remarked that though the incident was tragic, officers are grateful that it wasn’t worse.
Sheriff’s deputies responded at 7:20 p.m. to an air emergency as crews have been battling the Broadway hearth close to Cabazon, in response to a put up by the Riverside County Sheriff’s workplace on X, previously generally known as Twitter, The Related Press reported.
CBS Information Los Angeles says the collision occurred over Native American land.
