Police in Imo State have arrested three officers of the Nationwide Drug Legislation Enforcement Company and two from the Nigeria Safety and Civil Defence Corps for allegedly harassing and extorting residents of the state.
A 37-year-old police inspector was additionally arrested for a similar offence.
The police spokesperson within the state, Henry Okoye, made this identified to reporters on Tuesday in Owerri.
Mr Okoye, an assistant superintendent of police, alleged that the suspects had been infamous for extorting unsuspecting residents, particularly the youths in Owerri, utilizing POS machines.
“These are safety operatives hiding beneath the umbrella of Operation Search and Flush in Imo, harassing and extorting unsuspecting members of the general public, particularly the youths to the tune of 1000’s of naira.
