NEW DELHI: The federal government on Friday stated it’ll revamp the usual working procedures for tunnel building after an knowledgeable panel discovered many shortcomings within the under-construction Silkyara tunnel, which collapsed in November final yr, leaving 41 employees stranded for greater than two weeks.
At a press briefing, Highway Transport and Highways Secretary Anurag Jain stated the Silkyara tunnel challenge in Uttarkashi remains to be workable, and the federal government is not going to abandon it.

The Ministry of Highway Transport and Highways (MoRTH), on December 6, constituted a five-member committee to analyze the collapse of the tunnel.
“The committee has urged some adjustments in commonplace working procedures (SOPs) of tunnel building. Primarily based on the committee’s suggestion, we’ll change SOPs for tunnel building to stop the prevalence of Silkayara-like mishaps sooner or later,” he added.
