A U.S. navy helicopter carrying 5 Marines that was because of land in California has gone lacking, authorities stated Wednesday. Search and rescue efforts have been being coordinated by the third Marine Plane Wing at Miramar Air Station, the San Diego County Sheriff’s Division and the Civil Air Patrol, the Marine Corps stated in an announcement to CBS Information.
The Tremendous Stallion helicopter was flying from Creech Air Pressure Base in Clark County, Nevada, to Marine Corps Air Station Miramar in San Diego on Tuesday when it was reported overdue, the Marine Corps stated.
The California Division of Forestry and Hearth Safety informed CBS Information it obtained a name at 2:20 a.m. that the helicopter was overdue.
Firefighters have been dispatched to a location east of San Diego within the space of the Cleveland Nationwide Forest, a spokesperson with the company’s San Diego workplace informed CBS Information. The realm had rugged terrain and heavy snow was falling, the spokesperson stated. Nothing was discovered on the location.
Cal Hearth requested the U.S. Forest Service and the U.S. Border Patrol to assist with the search effort. The forest is positioned close to the U.S.-Mexico border.
The 5 lacking Marines have been assigned to Marine Heavy Helicopter Squadron 361, Marine Plane Group 16, third Marine Plane Wing, the Marine Corps stated.
