The unions concerned are the Nationwide Union of Air Transport Workers (NUATE), the Air Transport Companies Senior Employees Affiliation of Nigeria (ATSSSAN), the Affiliation of Nigerian Aviation Professionals (ANAP), and the Nationwide Affiliation of Plane Pilots and Engineers (NAAPE).
Comrade Uzor Samuel Oluchi, the Deputy Nationwide President of NUATE, confirmed the event to The Guardian.
He said that in compliance with the directives by the NLC/TUC, the union started a strike motion on the Abuja airport at 12 am, leading to no flights touchdown or taking off.
“As I communicate, I’m on the runway, and no flight is touchdown or taking off. This can proceed till the federal government consents to our calls for,” he mentioned. He additionally talked about that whereas the toll gate stays open, all terminal buildings are shut down.
The unions acknowledged the complexities of worldwide journey and introduced that the strike at worldwide terminals would start on June 4. Uzor emphasised, “Aside from worldwide flights, no native flights are touchdown for now.”
The Guardian noticed a whole bunch of passengers standing with their baggage on the entrance of the terminal constructing, hoping that the union would name off the strike.
