The Financial and Monetary Crimes Fee (EFCC) has detained a former Managing Director of the Niger Delta Improvement Fee (NDDC), Nsima Ekere, over numerous corruption allegations.
Sources with direct data of the case informed PREMIUM TIMES that Mr Ekere was detained after he surrendered himself on the fee’s workplace in Lagos on Wednesday.
“Mr Ekere has been beneath investigations for years. He surrendered himself for arrest on Wednesday after realising that the fee was closing in on him,” one of many sources who pleaded to not be named as a result of they didn’t get authorisation to talk to journalists on the matter, informed this newspaper.
The sources stated the 56-year-old, who served because the managing director and chief government officer of the NDDC between 2017 and 2018, is being investigated over allegations of contract inflation and award of fictitious contracts throughout his time in workplace.
Mr Ekere, who allegedly dedicated the offences ranging from 2017, in line with sources, allegedly laundered funds from NDDC accounts via contractors to purchase selection properties in Lagos.

The EFCC, on Tuesday, equally detained a former Speaker of the Home of Representatives, Patricia Etteh, for allegedly receiving a suspicious N130 million fee from a contractor awarded a solar-powered electrification challenge in Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria’s South-South.
The stated contract was awarded to a sure Phin Jin Venture Restricted in 2011 for N240 million. It stays unclear if the corporate is registered with Nigeria’s Company Affairs Fee. A search of its title on the CAC on-line listing didn’t throw up any choice.
Investigators at the moment are saying weeks after the contractor was paid the mobilisation payment for the challenge, N130 million was transferred to Mrs Etteh who’s neither a director nor a shareholder of the corporate on report.
