Replace on SA Tourism Board
On 6 April 2023, I wrote a letter to the then chairperson of the SA Tourism Board, Dr Thozamile Botha asking for illustration on why I mustn’t dissolve the Board when it comes to my powers below the Tourism Act.
My letter outlined various severe issues, such because the conduct of the Board in respect of the Tottenham Hotspur sponsorship matter; the composition of the Board and whether or not the members have the mandatory information, expertise or {qualifications} as required by Part 13 of the Tourism Act; and sure severe allegations raised by the Appearing CEO of SA Tourism concerning the dearth of a correct functioning Board.
In my letter, I requested the SA Tourism Board Chairperson to reply to me in writing by 18 April 2023. I requested why the three issues raised in my letter don’t represent good trigger for me to dissolve the Board when it comes to Part 16 (3) of the Tourism Act.
I’ve not obtained representations on why the Board shouldn’t be dissolved.
I can nevertheless verify that between 7 and 13 April 2023, eight of the eleven Board Members, together with the Chairperson have resigned. The remaining three members of the Board can not type a quorum and the Board is subsequently not useful.
In all of the circumstances, I consider that good trigger exists to dissolve the Board and I shall accomplish that formally by means of the Authorities Gazette on Friday, 21 April 2023.
I may also formally gazette the appointment of a staff of three individuals to handle the affairs of the Board till the appointment of a brand new Board. This appointment is to be made below Part 16 (3) (b) of the Tourism Act.
