Artist Michael Armitage will design a brand new £1 coin which is able to enter circulation subsequent 12 months, Chancellor Rishi Sunak has introduced.

He was chosen by the Chancellor on recommendation offered by an impartial panel with experience in coin design and artwork.
The 1983 £1 coin was totally redesigned in 2017, together with the introduction of latest security measures.
