President Muhammadu Buhari on Sunday mourned the passing of Oladipo Diya, who served as Chief of Basic Employees from 1993 to 1997 and Vice Chairman of the Provisional Ruling Council in 1994.
The President, in an announcement by his spokesperson, Femi Adesina, in Abuja paid tribute to Mr Diya’s daring and brave profession within the Nigerian navy.
Mr Diya, a retired lieutenant basic, died earlier on Sunday in Lagos on the age of 79.
He hailed from Odogbolu in Ogun State.
Mr Diya, who was born on 3 April 1944 in Odogbolu, Ogun State, died on Sunday in Lagos.
Mr Buhari lauded the deceased for his devoted service to the nation as Basic Officer Commanding, 82 Division, Commandant, of Nationwide Struggle Faculty (1991–1993), Chief of Defence Employees and Navy Governor of Ogun from January 1984 to August 1985.
He recalled that the late Mr Diya was recognized for his brilliance, distinctive organisational abilities and self-discipline, and he displayed these virtues within the essential roles he held in workplace as a navy officer.
