The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) on Tuesday debunked claims that President Muhammadu Buhari permitted the reissuance and launch of previous N500 and N1000 notes as authorized tender within the nation.
In an announcement signed by the spokesperson of the financial institution, Osita Nwanisobi, the apex financial institution described the claims as “pretend”.
The financial institution stated it’s only reissuing the previous N200 as permitted by the president.
“The eye of the Central Financial institution of Nigeria has been drawn to a FAKE PRESS RELEASE Presupposed to have emanated from the Financial institution to the impact that President Muhammadu Buhari has permitted the reissuance and launch of previous N500 and N1000 notes as authorized tender within the nation,” the assertion stated.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the Central Financial institution of Nigeria reiterates that in keeping with the directives of Mr. President, solely N200 previous notes are to be reissued and to flow into concurrently with the brand new notes.
