At the very least 34 folks had been arrested on the College of Texas at Austin as of 9 p.m. native time, in keeping with the Texas Division of Security.
“At present, our College held agency, imposing our guidelines whereas defending the Constitutional proper to free speech. Peaceable protests inside our guidelines are acceptable,” College President Jay Hartzell stated in an announcement Wednesday night.
“Breaking our guidelines and insurance policies and disrupting others’ capability to study usually are not allowed. The group that led this protest said it was going to violate Institutional Guidelines. Our guidelines matter, and they are going to be enforced. Our College won’t be occupied.”
“There’s a method to train freedom of speech and civil discourse, and our Workplace of the Dean of College students has continued to supply methods to make sure protests can occur throughout the guidelines,” Hartzell continued.
The dispersal order ended shortly after 9 p.m. and the campus was deemed “all clear,” Austin Police stated on X.
