It’s understood the 37-year-old was taking his canine for a drink of water at a Bloomfield boat ramp, north of Port Douglas, when a croc immediately lunged from the water and took “a big chunk” out of his leg at 5.30pm.
The animal is believed to have then dragged the person into the Bloomfield River earlier than he was in a position to escape to land.
He was flown to Cairns for emergency therapy the place he’s believed to now be in a steady situation in hospital.
