The Edo State House of Assembly led by the Speaker, Hon. Blessing Agbebaku, has on Monday, 7th May 2024, suspended three Lawmakers over an alleged conspiracy to impeach the speaker and principal officers of the house.
The suspension was announced during a plenary session on Monday, which raised several specks of dust among the honourable members of the house. The suspended members of the house included: Hon. Donald Okuegbe (representing Akoko-Edo constituency), Hon. Bright Iyamu (Orihonmwon South), and Hon. Adeh Isibor (Esan North East I) who are members of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
According to the Speaker while delivering the suspension decision, “The three lawmakers are being used by some external forces to cause chaos, in a bid to change the leadership of the house.”
Reacting to the suspension saga, the National President of the Niger Delta Students’ Union Government (NIDSUG), Comr. Scott Ogunseri, has written to the Leadership of the Edo House of Assembly, to quickly reinstate the suspended honourable members, which according to him, their action is capable of raising uproar in the state.
The memo further stated that Hon. Bright Iyamu representing the people Orihonmwon South is a patron of NIDSUG, and “the suspension to Hon. Bright Iyamu, is a suspension to the entire Niger Delta Students.” Comr. Ogunseri in the memo equally loosed the implication of the action of the House, especially this period that the state is heading towards its 2024 gubernatorial election.
