The European Fee is formally sidelining the European Parliament’s scrutiny function relating to €1bn of loans being despatched to Egypt.
European Fee president Ursula von der Leyen says, in a letter dated 15 March and seen by EUobserver, that the urgency of wiring the cash to Cairo requires her to bypass the meeting.
She has since determined to set off article 213 within the EU treaty, permitting the European Fee to go at it alone.
