The Chief of Military Workers (COAS), Taoreed Lagbaja, a lieutenant normal, has expressed heartfelt condolences on behalf of the Nigerian Military, on the passing of one among his predecessor, Chris Alli.
The condolence message is contained in a press release by the Director of Military Public Relations, Onyema Nwachukwu, made obtainable to the Information Company of Nigeria (NAN), on Sunday in Abuja.
Mr Nwachukwu, a brigadier-general, stated the previous Military Chief succumbed to a quick sickness within the early hours of Sunday on the Army Hospital, Lagos.
He stated that the late former COAS served the military, the Armed Forces of Nigeria and the nation with honour and dedication in varied capacities, leaving enduring prints on the sands of time.
“Alli’s dedication and zeal to responsibility manifested evidently as he rose via the ranks to develop into the Director, Army Intelligence (DMI), amongst a number of different key appointments within the Nigerian military.”
He stated that Mr Alli, a retired major-general, rose to the top of his army profession because the ninth COAS in November 1993 in the course of the regime of Sani Abacha and was there till his retirement from service in August, 1994.
Born on 25 December 1944, in Koton Karfe, Kogi State, Mr Alli’s sojourn within the military started on 27 October, 1967, as a member of the Emergency Brief Service Combatant Course.
He served in varied capacities, chopping throughout employees, tutorial and command, and was, at a time, the army governor of Plateau State and later the interim administrator of the state in 2004.
“The COAS, Lt.-Gen. Lagbaja, on receiving the disheartening information of his demise, profoundly expressed his condolences to the household, associates and colleagues of the late COAS.
“He prayed for the repose of his soul and the power and solace for the household on this troublesome time,” the assertion stated.
