The Inspector-Basic of Police (I-G), Mr Usman Baba, has ordered full enforcement of the CBN Act, 2007 that criminalises the hawking and promoting of naira notes.
The Drive Public Relations Officer, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, mentioned this in a press release on Friday in Abuja.
He ordered the arrest and prosecution of all people engaged within the sale or abuse of the Naira notes issued by the CBN.
Baba mentioned the order was consistent with the provisions of Sections 20 and 21 of the CBN Act, 2007 that criminalises amongst others, the hawking, promoting or in any other case buying and selling on the naira notes.
He directed all supervisory Assistant Inspectors-Basic of Police and Commissioners of Police accountable for Instructions and Formations to hold out the complete enforcement.
The I-G additionally ordered the location of officers and males of the Drive Felony Investigations Division and the Drive Intelligence Bureau on excessive alert.
He directed the Deputy Inspector-Basic of Police accountable for the Drive Felony Investigations Division and the Assistant Inspector-Basic of Police accountable for Drive Intelligence Bureau to impact the order.
In line with him, the order is in furtherance of the Federal Authorities’s coverage and drive to uphold the provisions of the CBN Act, 2007 and dignify Nigeria’s forex.
He reiterated the mandate of the Nigeria Police Drive to implement all legal guidelines and rules with out prejudice to the enabling Acts of different safety businesses.
Baba known as on the general public to cooperate with the Nigeria Police Drive within the enforcement of the CBN Act in opposition to violators.
