The committee issued subpoenas to 5 sitting Home members final week.
The Home choose committee investigating the Jan. 6 assault on the U.S. Capitol has requested data from a sixth Home Republican, Rep. Barry Loudermilk of Georgia, suggesting in a letter Thursday that he could also be linked to a tour by components of the Capitol on the day earlier than the assault.
“We consider you will have data concerning a tour you led by components of the Capitol advanced on January 5, 2021,” Chairman Rep. Bennie Thompson, D-Miss., and Vice Chair Liz Cheney, R-Wyo., wrote in a letter to Loudermilk Thursday.
The letter is available in response to a Democratic Home member’s request for Capitol safety to research allegations that GOP lawmakers led reconnaissance excursions across the Capitol advanced forward of the assault.
“In response to these allegations, Republicans on the Committee on Home Administration — of which you’re a Member — claimed to have reviewed safety footage from the times previous January sixth and decided that ‘[t]right here had been no excursions, no giant teams, nobody with MAGA hats on.’ Nevertheless, the Choose Committee’s assessment of proof straight contradicts that denial,” the letter to Loudermilk says.
The panel, which is trying to maintain public hearings in June, recommended assembly with Loudermilk on the week of Might 23.
A consultant for Loudermilk didn’t reply to a request for remark from ABC Information.
The request for Loudermilk’s cooperation comes per week after committee issued subpoenas to 5 Home Republicans — Minority Chief Kevin McCarthy of California, Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, Rep. Scott Perry, R-Pa., Rep. Andy Biggs, R-Ariz., and Ronny Jackson, R-Texas — after they refused to cooperate voluntarily with the panel.
