NBA executives can’t give one good cause for why they’ve such sturdy enterprise ties with China. The second they’re compelled to provide a solution on why they do enterprise with the communist nation, their responses are only one huge load of nonsense.
That was the case when Los Angeles Lakers proprietor Jeanie Buss went on Fox Enterprise this week. When requested by Maria Bartiromo about why the league is buddy-buddy with a rustic that squashes anybody who dares go in opposition to the tyrannical regime and that commits numerous human rights violations, she dodged the query.
“What I, uh, imagine is sports activities is, uh, uh, one thing that we will all share collectively by enjoying basketball,” Buss stated. “And being some of the common sports activities everywhere in the world, we’re sending a message about who we’re and what’s necessary to us and what we worth, and I feel sports activities is a very necessary car for that.”
Kamala Harris can be happy with the extent of absurdity served up in that phrase salad.
By having China in its pocket — or is it the opposite method round? — the NBA isn’t sending the message of hope and unity that Buss would have you ever assume it does. What is definitely taking place is that the league is unashamedly telling the world that so long as China offers billions in income, it is going to flip a blind eye to no matter occurs inside the nation’s borders.
And that’s a reasonably horrible message.
