SEOUL: North Korea has appointed veteran diplomat Choe Son-hui as its first feminine overseas minister, state media reported, as Pyongyang pushes forward with a blitz of sanctions-busting weapons assessments and ignores US requires talks.
Choe, who previously served because the North’s vice overseas minister, was tapped to steer the overseas ministry at a ruling social gathering assembly overseen by chief Kim Jongun. She replaces Ri Son Gwon, a hardline former army official who beforehand led talks with the South.
Fluent in English, Choe served as a detailed aide to Kim throughout nuclear talks with the US and accompanied him to the Hanoi summit with then US President Donald Trump.
