Ogun judicial staff start five-day warning strike 

Judicial staff in Ogun state on Monday commenced a five-day warning strike over non-payment of their 40 per cent peculiar allowance.

The employees, below the aegis of the Judiciary Workers Union of Nigeria, Ogun state chapter, shut down the state excessive courtroom and Justice of the Peace courtroom in Isabo, Abeokuta, the state capital.

When our correspondent visited the courtroom on Monday, attorneys have been stranded as judges have been prevented from finishing up their duties.

Talking over the economic motion, the state chairman of JUSUN, Olarenwaju Ajiboye mentioned the employees have been pressured to embark on the strike, following the refusal of the state authorities to accede to their calls for.

In line with Ajiboye, the union launched into the strike following the expiration of the 21-day ultimatum issued to the state authorities.

“Right this moment, Ogun state judicial staff commenced a five-day warning strike to protest the non-payment of 40 per cent peculiar allowance of judicial staff by the state authorities.

“After the warning strike, if the Ogun state authorities fails to do the needful, the union will proceed on indefinite strike come 18 March 2024.

“In August 2023, the state authorities commenced the cost of non-peculiar allowance to the core civil servants, instantly we grew to become conscious of this, we knowledgeable our nationwide physique who wrote three letters – one to the Head of Service and two to the governor straight on the matter.

“The Head of Service referred to as a gathering with the union and different stakeholders to debate the best way ahead. The explanations given to the union for the federal government to not pay the cash weren’t tenable and never acceptable to the union, which is why we proceeded on a day warning strike.

“The union held its congress the place a 21-day ultimatum was issued to the state authorities to do the needful failure of which can result in 5 days warning strike after which we’ll proceed on indefinite strike,” Ajiboye mentioned.
