Police examine alleged torture, violent killing of animals

The police in Enugu State, south-east Nigeria, say they’ve begun investigation into the alleged torture and violent killing of animals by a local physician within the state.

The native physician, recognized merely as Nnabuikem, popularly often called ‘Excessive Chief Enenie Nwa ite,’ hails from Ovoko, a group in Igbo-Eze South Native Authorities of the state.

Mr Nnabuikem is seen in a number of video clips uploaded on his Fb web page torturing and violently killing animals, apparently to carry out rituals for his shoppers.

In one of many clips, the native physician was seen pounding a dwell chameleon and a cat in a mortal whereas making some incantations.

He was seen in one other clip violently slitting the throat of a ram in a river, after which he threw the ram’s head and physique individually into the river.

Police converse

The police, in a publish on their X deal with on Thursday, mentioned that they had obtained “a number of” studies on the alleged torture and cruelty to animals by the native physician.

Outrage

There may be widespread condemnation and anger over the native physician’s act by many Nigerians, with some calling for his arrest.

“Please, cease this man from his horrible motion,” an X person @ClaireChec53197 wrote.

One other x person @belindaburns244 requested the police to “discover and cope with” the native physician and his cohorts to cease the torture of animal.

“Arrest the serial killer… He’s nonetheless torturing and killing animals and posting his crimes on Fb. Act Now,” an X person @AbeerAGharbieh, appealed to the police on Friday.

One other X person @Loris_chaser expressed fear that if the native physician was not stopped, he might resume killing residents as a substitute.

US-based animal rights group calls for native physician’s prosecution

In the meantime, a US-based animal rights safety group, Individuals for the Moral Remedy of Animals (PETA) had petitioned Nigeria’s Inspector Common of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and the Enugu State Commissioner of Police, Kanayo Uzuegbu, to intervene within the matter.

President Bola Tinubu, Nigeria’s attorney-general, Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and Speaker of Home of Representatives, amongst others, have been copied within the petition.

Within the petition, dated 29 January and signed by Jenn Forbes, the nationwide legislative officer of the group’s Cruelty Investigations Division, PETA mentioned it had obtained “disturbing studies” of a number of movies initially posted on the Fb account of the native physician.
