The police in Rivers State, South-south Nigeria, say they’d examine some officers who allegedly assaulted a traveller within the state.
Assault
A human rights activist, Harrison Gwamnishu, had petitioned the Nigerian Police Power by way of his X handle (previously Twitter) on Friday over alleged assault of a traveller by some unidentified law enforcement officials within the state.
Mr Gwamnishu stated the traveller, merely recognized as Jennifer, was allegedly overwhelmed by the officers who had been on a stop-and- search operation round Ada George, Port Harcourt, on Thursday.
The activist uploaded a video clip of the incident.
“Please examine this and name these males to order. Thanks,” he appealed to the police authorities in Nigeria.
Video clip
Within the one minute, three seconds clip, which has now gone viral, a lady is heard shouting at some armed officers alongside a freeway, accusing them of inflicting harm on her sister.
“That is the Nigerian Police. Have a look at my sister’s mouth,” she yelled on the officers.
The clip confirmed a minimum of 4 armed officers on the scene of the incident.
“Policemen give my sister beta harm and you might be right here making a video of me. After giving my sister an harm. Did you see something in my sister’s bag? By no means,” she stated.
The sister, understood to be Jennifer, was bleeding on her lips. She was seen inside a Toyota Corolla automobile struggling to wash herself up.
The clip didn’t present when the officers allegedly inflicted the harm on her.
Two unidentified individuals, believed to be co-travellers, had been seen discussing with a few of the officers.
Police react
Responding, the police in Rivers State, by way of their official X handle on Saturday, stated their consideration had been drawn to the viral clip of the officers accused of assaulting the girl.
“…The command needs to tell most of the people that each one arms are on deck to determine the law enforcement officials within the trending video for correct investigation,” the police wrote on the microblogging website.
Not the primary time
The newest incident occurred about 5 months after a police officer, filmed slapping a motorist in Emouha, Rivers State, was demoted.
The Emouha incident occurred a couple of days after Ubi Ebri, one other officer, allegedly shot lifeless a younger man within the neighbouring Delta State for reportedly refusing to offer N100 bribe.
