The police in Abia State, South-east Nigeria, say they’ve busted a suspected “child manufacturing facility” in Aba, the business hub of the state.
The police spokesperson in Abia State, Maureen Chinaka, disclosed this throughout a press briefing on Friday in Umuahia, the state capital.

Ms Chinaka, an assistant superintendent of police, stated 16 pregnant women, aged between 17 and 27 years, have been rescued throughout the operation.
She stated 13 of the rescued pregnant women hail from Akwa Ibom State, South-south Nigeria, whereas two others come from Cross River, one other state within the South-south.
One of many women hails from Ebonyi State, Nigeria’s South-east.
The spokesperson stated the operation was performed on Thursday evening by police operatives from the Speedy Response Squad within the state.
She stated the operatives additionally rescued eight kids, comprising 5 males and three females, from the “child manufacturing facility”.
The eight kids have been aged between two and 11 years.
Arrest of suspects
Ms Chinaka stated two suspects – a lady and a person – allegedly harbouring the women on the “child manufacturing facility” have been arrested by the police.
The police spokesperson recognized the suspects as 29-year-old girl, Onyinyechi Okoro, and 32-year-old man, Ekene Okezie.
She stated whereas Mrs Okoro hails from Ihechiowa Neighborhood in Arochukwu Native Authorities Space of Abia State, Mr Okezie is from Aro-Ndizuogu, a neighborhood in Ideato North Native Authorities Space of Imo State.
