Portrait of Picasso’s daughter Maya sells at public sale for over £18 million

A portrait by Pablo Picasso of his daughter Maya has bought for greater than £18 million at public sale.

The piece was certainly one of 5 works that was bought for greater than £15 million on the sale by public sale home Sotheby’s on Wednesday.

Titled Fillette au bateau, Maya, it’s a “joyful” portrait of the Spanish artist’s daughter, Maya Widmaier-Picasso – painted in 1938 when she was simply two and a half years previous.

Sotheby’s two gross sales of recent and modern artwork on Wednesday achieved a mixed complete of £172.6 million – a rise of 15% on the public sale home’s equal sale final June.
