The Tincan Island Command of the Nigeria Customs Service stated it rejected the N50m bribe supplied by a smuggler concerned within the importation of tramadol and different medication for his container to be launched.
The Customs Space Comptroller of Tincan, Mr Adekunle Oloyede, stated this on Monday whereas addressing journalists on the command.
He stated the suspect, Boniface Ike, accepted possession of two 40-foot containers arrested with medication with the obligation paid worth of N550m.
He stated, “One of many suspects in custody, Boniface Ike, accepted that he’s the proprietor (importer) of the 2 containers and sought to debate privately with the command.
“I instructed my officers to play alongside; the request was granted with expectations of receiving important data from the suspect. However to their bewilderment, the suspect pleaded for his freedom from detention and launch of the containers whereas providing gratification to the tune of N50m which is equal to $54,330 on the present trade charge of N920/$. The cash was collected and saved in secure custody on the enforcement unit to be tendered as an exhibit.”
Oloyede added that two suspects had been arrested and had been at present within the custody of the enforcement unit of the command.
He stated the seized containers of prescribed drugs had been coming from India.
Oloyede stated that the unregistered pharmaceutical merchandise intercepted had been regulated merchandise by the Nationwide Company for Meals and Drug Administration and Management.
He reiterated that the medication didn’t have the required permits and certificates for importation.
He stated the suspects, containers and the exhibit could be handed over to the companies which might be in command of regulation of such importation.
