A former governor of Ogun State, Gbenga Daniel, has requested the state authorities to cease the cost of his month-to-month pension as an ex-governor.
Mr Daniel is now the senator representing the Ogun East district.
His request was in view of the “moral code towards double emoluments {that a} serving Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria who hitherto was a former State Governor, shall not be entitled to the cost of pension and allowances from such state.”
The senator made the request via a letter he despatched to the state governor and dated 14th June, a duplicate of which was obtained by PREMIUM TIMES.
The assertion learn partly: “I write to request for the suspension of my month-to-month pension/allowances of 676,376.95 (gross) (Six Hundred and Seventy-Six Thousand, Three Hundred Seventy-Six Naira, Ninety-5 Kobo) being paid as a former Government Governor of Ogun State.
“It’s pertinent to even have it on report that since I left the workplace in 2011, I’ve not benefitted from any welfare packages, be it medical, furnishings, transportation and many others.”
Many state governments award their former governors beneficiant pensions, regardless of the cost being broadly criticised.
