The Bayelsa Elders Council has urged the Niger Delta Improvement Fee to collaborate with different growth businesses and state governments to discover a lasting resolution to the perennial floods ravaging the Niger Delta area.
Chairman of the Council and former Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, Rear Admiral Gboribiogha Jonah (retd.), made the decision throughout an interactive assembly with the NDDC Managing Director, Dr Samuel Ogbuku, in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State capital.
This was contained in a press release issued in Port Harcourt by the NDDC Director, of Company Affairs, Dr Ibitoye Abosede.
The assertion quoted Jonah as saying that the Elders’ Council, comprising largely conventional rulers, had commissioned a research on the right way to sort out the recurrent flood within the state, noting that the report of the research was prepared and ready for implementation.
Responding, the NDDC MD, Ogbuku assured the elders that the fee was already taking measures to mitigate the consequences of flood within the area,
“We are going to construct campsites in Delta, Bayelsa and Rivers states as a short lived measure whereas a dam can be the everlasting resolution, “ he said.
