A Tanker bearing 33,000 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) at Chab Filling Station reverse Star Paper Mill, in Aba, Abia State, caught fireplace on Thursday and destroyed property price over N 130 million.
The Information Company of Nigeria (NAN) reported that eyewitnesses claimed the hearth outbreak started at about midday and lasted until about 2 pm.
The Abia State Fireplace Service firemen from each Aba and Umuahia stations got here to the rescue, quenching the hearth.
An avoidable accident: Arua Nnanna, the Chief Fireplace Officer of Abia State Fireplace Service, stated the incident may have been prevented. In response to him, the service had warned gasoline station house owners to all the time discharge their merchandise when the depth of the solar’s warmth shouldn’t be excessive.

He advised that whereas the tanker was offloading PMS, the climate was sizzling and the station didn’t have the mandatory security gear available.
Belenta Belenta, the Commander of Abia State Fireplace Service, Aba Command, stated that the depth of the hearth was past the capability of the Aba command, therefore the request for help from Umuahia. He stated:
- “We obtained the knowledge and rushed instantly with my males. The tanker was discharging and that discharge resulted in a hearth outbreak. The tanker was loaded with 33,000 litres of PMS. We battled the hearth with the help of our predominant station in Umuahia. And we quenched it presumably with the kind of chemical we had.
- “We’re interesting to the federal government to return to the hearth service workplace to see what we have to guarantee that we’ll proceed to serve higher. If not that we’ve got succesful males who may handle fierce fires, we couldn’t have achieved a lot as a result of we don’t have sufficient gear for one of these fireplace.”
