Ukraine’s Nationwide Fee for State Language Requirements has dominated that writing phrases similar to “Russia” and “Moscow” in lowercase letters in unofficial paperwork will now not be thought-about an error.
The fee mentioned it made the choice after contemplating appeals from Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Iryna Vereshchuk and official letters from the Institute of Ukrainian Language and the O. O. Potebnia Institute of Linguistics of the Nationwide Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.
Any longer, spelling phrases similar to “Russian Federation,” “Russia,” “Moscow,” “Moscow Kingdom,” “Russian Empire” and “State Duma of the Russian Federation,” in lowercase won’t be a “deviation from the norms of the Ukrainian language in texts of an unofficial nature,” the fee mentioned.
Many Ukrainians, on social media specifically, had already been utilizing lowercase letters when referring to Russia, ever for the reason that Kremlin’s full-scale invasion of the nation started in February 2022.
