Wading For Change BIPOC Filmmakers 2024 Grant Award Recipients Revealed

5 Level Movie, in collaboration with Fats Tire and Mountains of Colour Movie Competition, has revealed the recipients of the second annual Wading for Change BIPOC Filmmakers Grant.

This grant, established by Sofia Jaramillo and Jr Rodriguez, goals to middle BIPOC voices throughout the journey movie business. The $20,000 grant has been cut up between two creatives: David Yousling for Past the Saddles and Mallory Duncan for Night time Writers.

First-time filmmaker Yousling’s Past the Saddles follows non-binary runner Clean Bruno exploring id and discovering neighborhood by way of path working, set towards the backdrop of the paths of Prescott, Arizona. 

As 5 Level Flagship Competition alumni along with his second movie, Duncan’s Night time Writers explores the stylistic and ideological connections between graffiti artists and road skiers by the use of a ski masks.

Each of the movies will premiere at 5 Level’s Flagship Competition in April.

The Wading For Change – BIPOC Filmmaker’s Grant is the results of a collaboration between a bunch of BIPOC filmmakers who have been engaged on their first movie collectively, titled Wading for Change. In partnership with Fats Tire, 5Point Movie Competition, and Mountains of Colour Movie Competition, these filmmakers sought to increase alternatives for filmmakers and photographers of shade to inform tales that elevate illustration within the realm of nature.

“As creatives of shade, we all know firsthand the obstacles to entry and difficulties of working within the artistic business,” ,” said Sofia Jaramillo, one of many grant’s founders. “We need to tackle these obstacles by encouraging different BIPOC creatives and creating alternatives.”
