A pair in Anambra State, South-east Nigeria allegedly tried to starve their five-year-old daughter to loss of life after labelling her a witch.
The couple, Michael Wosu, 47, and Blessing, his 23-year-old spouse, allegedly carried out the act in Adazi-Ani, a neighborhood in Anaocha Native Authorities Space of the state, the place they reside.
Chidinma Ikeanyionwu, a media aide to the Commissioner for Girls and Social Welfare within the state, Ify Obinabo, disclosed this in an announcement on Thursday.
Ms Ikeanyionwu stated the couple had been arrested by the commissioner.
The media aide stated the arrest adopted a report back to the commissioner from the Chairperson of the council space, Ikechukwu Ozoh, and Chinwe Uba, the State Coordinator of a bunch, Girls of Good Governance.
Mrs Obinabo, whereas chatting with the couple in her workplace, stated her major project was to guard the rights of each baby in Anambra State, Ms Ikeanyionwu stated.
The commissioner appreciated a resident, Ikenna Anoliefo, for rescuing the kid and drawing the eye of authorities from the council space.
She vowed to prosecute the couple and others who commit such acts within the state.
‘Deserves to die’
The couple, based on the assertion, informed the commissioner that they had been ravenous their daughter in obedience to their unnamed pastor’s prophecy that the lady was a witch.
They stated they felt that there was no want to provide the daughter meals as a result of, as a witch, she doesn’t should dwell.

The mom Blessing, who hails from Akwa Ibom State, South-south Nigeria, claimed that the daughter, by “her witchcraft”, was answerable for the collapse of her father’s enterprise.
She added that she equally compelled the daughter to be sleeping on a plank as a result of she steadily urinated and defecated on their mattress.
The daddy, Mr Wosu, who comes from Rivers State, one other state within the South-south, claimed he was not conscious that his spouse was maltreating the daughter.
The kid, the assertion stated, has been taken to a hospital for medical remedy.
